Welcome,

Did you know that one of the best benefits in the NMRA is the monthly get-togethers with fellow modelers from your local area? Our meetings provide you with the opportunity to meet modelers that may live around the block, soon to be friends that you may never have known were also model railroaders.

Show your abilities and/or interests

  • Monthly "Show and Tells" allow members to share their interests with the group. Think you're the only person interested in the Ma & Pa RR or modeling the Pere Marquette circa 1946 in this area? Maybe you will find someone else in our group shares your interest.

  • Are you a top-notch modeler, but you can only show off your ability through the once a year national or regional convention contests? Maybe you need to see how your models measure up before you venture into a contest? Get on the road toward those NMRA achievement awards.

Network

  • Get to know your fellow local modelers - when you attend that next regional convention and see your "old friends" from the division, you will feel right at home and you may get the opportunity to become friends with nationally known model railroaders through those "old" division contacts.

  • Meet division members that belong to the various NMRA SIGs and determine which groups really meet your needs before committing to them.

Gain first hand knowledge

  • Learn new skills or techniques at any one of the eleven clinics during the year – December’s clinic is combined with the "Show and Tell" to provide enough time for all of the members’ slides to be presented.

  • The division has many NMRA Master Model Railroaders in its ranks that are glad to share their knowledge with newer modelers.

Solicit help

  • Need help with planning and researching your future layout? Ask around and you will meet many division members that also belong to the various NMRA SIGs (special interest groups) that can share their specialized knowledge with you.

  • Need help with the "grunt work" of constructing the layout? Or maybe you’re not comfortable doing the electrical work? Ask around and get some volunteers to help "raise the barn" or teach you how to finally wire your layout so you can host some operating sessions.

Become Involved

  • Although you’ve joined the National and the Region, modelers typically gather only once a year for the respective conventions. Now you can ‘belong’ to the NMRA and meet your friends on a more frequent schedule. Attend your local division meetings and increase your fun.

  • Become an officer or committee person for your division and start on the road toward those NMRA achievement awards while helping your fellow modelers. Many regional and national officers got their start at the division level – this level of commitment definitely makes you feel that you are a part of the NMRA!

Layout tours and operating sessions

  • The division has organized layout tours in the local area – various division members, local clubs and local non-affiliated modelers – and in the region – the last trip being to "Chicagoland" to actually operate on two layouts, one on a Friday night and the other on Saturday evening.

Low membership fees

  • The division user fee of only seven dollars per year allows the division to mail the division’s newsletter "The Carhouse", pay for the meeting facility and pay for a group membership in the 1225 organization.

More Information

  • The website has the schedule of upcoming clinics, usually the next four months, as well as maps to our location, contacts, shows in the area, etc.

  • Please feel free to stop in on the 3rd Thursday of any month and take the division for a test drive. We meet at the Troy Christian Chapel, 400 East Long Lake Road (18 Mile Road for any eastsiders) Troy, Michigan. Meetings start at approximately 7PM.
